In making the announcement last week, Pacific Industries general manager Ashlon Chue said: “We are very proud to be the major sponsor of Capital Rugby Union this year. “The purpose of this announcement is not about Pacific Industries or the donation, but more importantly about our fantastic game and the positive impacts it can have on communities. “I hope this encourages other private business to dig deep and support this as the impact a sport like rugby can have on individuals and communities are life changing. “There were two main reasons PI decided to come on as a sponsor in 2018.” Chue said they believe that with the right platforms PNG has what it takes to produce world class players…as the raw talent in Papua New Guinea is unrivalled. “We also wholeheartedly believe that rugby union is a fantastic vehicle to educate our youth on so many important values and social behavioral issues that we struggle with at times. “These values can be utilised regardless of what path they decide to choose in life, whether it be discipline, dedication, hard work ethic, team work, accountability, honesty or socially acceptable behavior.” CRU president Kori Chan said that the CRU is honored to have the backing and support of Pacific Industries and the Chue family behind their game. “We as a union will now remain steadfast in delivering and achieving this charter,” Chan said. “We hope this sponsorship will act as a catalyst for other corporate entities to return to Bava Rugby Park and be a part of a rebuilding Capital Rugby Union that aims to promote and discipline the fundamental values of our game for our stakeholders such as respect, discipline and enjoyment.” Chan added that they believe that the strength of the 2018 CRU competition is evident in the ladder board across all five grades where they have five to seven teams all vying for a top four place in the upcoming finals. “This is a great time for our sponsor to come onboard and be a part of what will be a spectacle, come the finals,” Chan said.last_img read more
