It has a nine member – staff compliment here and manages a network of seven service stations.“So when we first started in Dominica five years ago we faced some serious challenges here in this beautiful country,” Chief Executive Officer of RUBIS Caribbean, Mauricio Nicholls told a cocktail reception at the Fort Young Hotel to celebrate the company’s five year anniversary on Thursday 13 October 2016.“Our operations were losing money, our LPG prices were below our landed cost, the equipment and appearance of our service stations was completely unacceptable, and the regulated fuel margins, which had been frozen for many, many years were simply insufficient to cover our operating costs,” Nicholls indicated. The company’s first task here, Nicholls said, was “turn the operation to a profitability, and you know many aspects of the operations were so wrong that it took us more than a year to turn the financial operations of Dominica around”.After that was done, the second task was to plan the introduction of a RUBIS brand since it didn’t exist anywhere in the world.“So it was not a matter of copying something that existed in other places, it was creating a new brand with the advertising agency; its look and feel, our RUBIS jiggle, our TV ads, our radio ads, our print ads, it was creating our performance fuel brand, Ultra Tec and our LPG brand Rubigas,” he noted.“In five years we have become an iconic brand and our brand resonates rationally and emotionally with our consumers. So we believe that we have become the preferred fuel brand in all the Caribbean markets where we operate,” Nicholls added. From a corporate social responsibility perspective, Nicholls said RUBIS has demonstrated “commitment to communities in Dominica through various corporate and social responsibility initiatives over the years in the areas of education, health, arts and culture”.In 2014 RUBIS upgraded the Wesley Community Preschool by installing a ceiling in the school building to enhance the environment for the children and co-sponsored the ‘Walk for Cancer Care’ in 2015 and 2016.RUBIS Caribbean operates in 16 territories and manages two hundred and thirty service stations.– / 41last_img read more
