The Hazlet Youth Athletic League will be holding its annual girls softball tournament July 23 – 31. The tournament’s age group brackets are under-8, under-10, under-12 and under-14. Amateur Athletic Union teams are not eligible for the tournament and the age group cut-off date is Jan. 1, 2000. The New Jersey 4-H Development Fund is sponsoring a golf outing on Monday at the Olde York Country Club, Columbus. The event starts at 11 a.m. with registration, and tee-off time is 1 p.m. The round of golf will be followed by a dinner with the presentation of awards. The Huskies won their last game of the campaign 4-2 over the previously unbeaten Bridgewater Eagles. The Huskies’ goals were made by Colin Cecere, Scott Fegler, Robbie Libraty and Steve Martinez. These players along with the rest of the team, Brett Cannon, Jeff Colodin, Dan Conti, Jon Foster, Adam Garcia, Rob Gartner, David Goodman, Tom Howley, Josh Mooney, Ted Okosi, Matt Shalhoub and Kenny Pesile, had a great season. The Battle of Monmouth Rockets, an under-15 (in the fall) boys soccer team, is actively seeking players for the fall/spring 2000/2001 seasons. The Freehold Area Running Club’s 18th Annual Bud Light 2000 Summer Race Series begins tonight at Battlefield State Park in Manalapan. The featured 5K race will set off at 6:50 p.m. At 6:10 there will be kids’ races and at 6:30 a one-mile Fun Run. The series will continue Wednesday evenings through the summer concluding on Aug. 2. Bob DiBernardo, the highly successful high school coach, whose teams have won nine league championships, three county titles, five state sectional crowns and the 1991 state championship (32-0 Ramsey, ranked No. 1 in the state), is running the camp.
